Extracting rock salt from the bed of Lake Katwe, Uganda, on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007. Rock salt is harvested from the main body of the lake three days a week with workers paid by weight at approximately $2 per 100kg, of which the government takes a percenage. All men work from dusk till dawn with a strong worker extracting 400 kg per day. Skin damage is a major problem for people working at Lake Katwe as chemicals in the water eat away at any nick or cut and also cause nerve damage.
