A 32 year-old woman waits for treatment at SOPROP (Solidarite Pour la Promotion Sociale et la Paix), a local NGO, in Kitchanga, North Kivu, DRC. The woman was raped by 2 CNDP soldiers on 5/1/08. Her husband has since left with their 4 children and she now lives with her mother. Sexual violence systematic in DRC with the brutality of attacks often leaving the victims with severe damage to reproductive organs, resulting in multiple fistulas and incontinence. According to the UN Population Fund an average of 1,100 rape cases are reported each month.
