Children burn cables from computers and other electronic equipment in order to retrieve copper, at Agbogbloshie dump, in Accra, Ghana. Combustion releases toxic metals such as lead, beryllium, cadmium and mercury into the atmosphere. At theses burning sites concentrations of toxic metals have been found at over one hundred times the normal level. Children do not wear any protective clothing and so expose themselves to lethal doses of these hazardous chemicals.
